Ancient Zapotec Peak & Landscape Hike
We start at 6:00 a.m. in the Historic Center of Teotitlán del Valle and set out on a hike to Guie-Bets, one of the community's ancestral peaks and a place of deep meaning in the Zapotec tradition. We arrive around 7:30 a.m., when the morning light begins to transform the landscape of the Valley. Along the way you will learn about some of the medicinal plants and local herbs that are part of the community's traditional knowledge, and discover the flora and fauna that inhabit the mountains and the valley. At Guie-Bets, we will talk about the ancestral relationship between the Zapotec people, nature, and the forces that give life to the territory. Here, our ancestors made offerings and rituals honoring the Sun and the Rain — elements essential to life and agriculture. More than a hike, this is an opportunity to walk the territory from a Zapotec perspective and connect with the ancestral memory of Teotitlán.
