The experience
Step into the textile world of Teotitlán del Valle alongside the women's weaving cooperatives and the families who have preserved this knowledge from generation to generation. Discover how the colors of the textiles are born from natural pigments obtained from plants, minerals, flowers and insects, and learn about the ancient Zapotec symbols that appear in the designs, each one connected to nature, the community and the memory of our ancestors. Learn about the different techniques used to prepare, dye and weave the wool, and watch how the artisans transform fibers into unique rugs and tapestries using two- and four-pedal looms. More than seeing a craft process, this experience will help you understand the cultural meaning behind every color, symbol and design, and how weaving continues to be a living part of the Community.
