The experience
A full day to discover Teotitlán del Valle through its people, exploring the culture, spirituality, and art that are part of life in this Zapotec community. We will pick you up at your hotel in Oaxaca City and travel to Teotitlán, where we will walk through the historic center, visit the local market, and learn about the history and heritage of the community. We will visit ceremonial spaces and the archaeological zone, drawing closer to the ancestral relationship between the people, their territory, and their traditions. We will then enter the world of traditional beeswax candles, learning their significance within celebrations and sharing an offering at a family altar. In a local kitchen, we will select fresh ingredients, prepare a traditional dish together, and sit down at the table with a community family. The experience continues in a family textile workshop, where you will learn the process of transforming wool into textiles: from natural dyes and their pigments to Zapotec symbols and traditional weaving techniques. The entire journey is accompanied by people from Teotitlán, creating a close encounter that goes beyond visiting places: it is an opportunity to converse, share, and understand a culture that remains alive.
