Artisanal & Ancestral Spiritual Mezcal

The experience

We leave from the Teotitlán del Valle Historical Center toward the agave fields that are part of the landscape and daily life of our communities. During the tour you will learn about the different species of agave that grow in Oaxaca and learn to recognize their characteristics, uses, and the relationship they have maintained with indigenous peoples over generations. Discover how agave is transformed into different types of mezcal and learn the particularities that distinguish each one: from the agave species and its cultivation to the traditional methods of cooking, fermentation, and distillation. We will also explore the meaning that mezcal has beyond the drink. In many Oaxacan communities it is part of important life moments, celebrations, gatherings, and reciprocity rituals. You will learn how it is shared and offered on different occasions, and why mezcal continues to be an element deeply linked to the identity, land, and community life of Oaxaca.

Practical information

Adults only (18+). Tasting portions are small and paced. Bring comfortable shoes, long sleeve shirts, a hat and sunscreen. Minimum of 2 travelers. Restrictions may apply on high season months, please be advised.
